Siren test Monday
All Hazard Alert Broadcast System warning sirens will sound in communities along the North Olympic Peninsula coast at noon Monday (Jan. 7).
Sirens will sound in Port Townsend, LaPush, Neah Bay, Clallam Bay, Lower Elwha, West Port Angeles, Dungeness and Diamond Point.
Winchester chimes will sound for 10 seconds, followed by a recording saying the alert is only a test. In an actual emergency, people who are indoors should check for messages from the Emergency Broadcast System on their radios or televisions if possible.
The sound tests are run the first Monday of each month to verify the system’s capabilities to send timely warning notification to the coastal communities of Clallam, Jefferson, Pacific and Grays Harbor counties.
Clallam County would like residents who hear the test to phone in to 360-417-2525.
Phone that number or 360-417-2483 for more information on earthquakes and tsunamis from the Clallam County Emergency Management Department. For more information from the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management, phone the department at 360-385-9368.
