For the past twelve years KSQM has celebrated the pets we love and rely on.  We call our celebration “Pet Week” and it would typically include “Pet Day” at Carrie Blake Park.  

However, Covid-19 has impacted our week-long celebration and the gathering at the park. A recent survey revealed that a vast majority of dogs have offered to eat any protective mask that they find…and the theory of “social distancing” did not pass the “sniff-test” with our canine respondents. 

And although 100 percent of cats surveyed were fine with “extreme social distancing”, no cat was willing to wear a mask at all!

(Elephants, Jersey and Guernsey Cows and Three-toed Sloths were most compliant, according to the survey, but required special accommodations for personal hygiene).

Nonetheless, our Pet Lovers celebration will continue On-Air, despite Covid!

The broadcast celebration starts today and runs through Sunday.

You’ll hear Woofs, Meows, Mooos, Chirps, Hoots and Hollars, and maybe a few Howls.  All KSQM animals and other volunteers have pledged to wear masks and keep a safe social distance while in-studio.  (Interestingly, some KSQM Announcers have offered to eat any face-mask that they find).

We’ll be talking about our local pet institutions…and we’ll throw in a some animal-music and humorous bits that your pets will love!
